How can text messages numbers be deleted without clearing the entire cell phone?

On the LG Xenon, can you delete the text message numbers without having to clear the entire cell phone..if so, how can this be accomplished?How can text messages numbers be deleted without clearing the entire cell phone?
You use the buttons , left,right,up and down , go to the number you want to be dleted and press cancel which is usually a 'C' on your mobile phone
